Comitatus” Definition: Power of the country.
Under this power, those persons in the state or town who are charged with
the maintenance of peace and good order were bound, ex officio, to pursue
and take all persons who are violated the law. For that purpose they might
command all the male inhabitants of a certain age to assist them.
